Cooperatives or Co-ops have been a business model since our country was founded. Farmers joined with other farmers and created co-ops and merchants joined together in a co-op.

They did this for many reasons including financial safety and security. Together they had much greater buying power. Each farmer or merchant made their own money from the sale of their crops and merchandise.  But then, since they all purchased their merchandise or seeds or fertilizer from the co-op, they received a share of the co-ops profits.

Co-ops are a very profitable and successful business model.
